Inter Miami has officially completed the signing of Spanish defender Sergio Reguilón on a two-year contract running through December 2027, with an option to extend until the end of the 2028 season. The move marks an important step in the club’s plans following their recent MLS Cup triumph.

Reguilón joins the Florida-based side as a free agent after his contract with Tottenham Hotspur expired last summer. Having spent several months without a club, the 28-year-old now gets a fresh start in Major League Soccer.

He will occupy an international roster slot and is expected to play a key role on the left side of defense, filling the void left by the recent retirement of club legend Jordi Alba.

Experience from Europe’s Top Leagues

Sergio Reguilón brings a wealth of experience from both LaLiga and the Premier League. In Spain, he made 56 league appearances across spells with Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, and Sevilla, developing a reputation as an energetic and attack-minded fullback.

One of the highlights of his European career came during the 2019–20 season, when he was part of Sevilla’s squad that lifted the UEFA Europa League trophy. That success helped establish him as one of Spain’s most promising left backs at the time.

In England, Reguilón featured regularly in the Premier League, making 81 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Brentford. His exposure to different tactical systems is expected to benefit Inter Miami’s defensive structure.

Speaking after the announcement, Reguilón described Inter Miami as an ambitious and winning project. He emphasized that the club’s vision and desire to compete for trophies were the main reasons behind his decision to move to MLS.

The Spanish defender made it clear that he is not coming to the United States to slow down. Instead, he aims to continue winning titles and help the club claim trophies that are still missing from their cabinet.

For Inter Miami, Reguilón represents more than just a replacement for Alba. His arrival signals the club’s intent to remain competitive domestically and internationally as they enter a new phase of development.

A Squad Still Taking Shape

Reguilón is Inter Miami’s first new signing of the current transfer window, but roster changes are far from finished. The club recently announced several end-of-season decisions as preparations continue for the 2026 campaign.

Negotiations are ongoing with star forward Luis Suárez after his one-year extension expired. Co-owner Jorge Mas confirmed that the decision now rests with Suárez, emphasizing the club’s respect for his legacy and contributions.

Inter Miami are also in talks with several players, including Allen Obando and Rocco Ríos Novo, while parting ways with others. With Reguilón now on board, the foundation is set for another ambitious season ahead. Follow the latest football news only at footballtipsonline.co.uk.
